NASHVILLE, TN July 30, 2015 – The Nikki Mitchell Foundation announced the return of the 4th Annual Jamey Johnson Celebrity Golf Tournament to benefit the early detection and prevention of Pancreatic Cancer.

Set to take place Sunday, September 27rd at the Cottonwood Golf Course in Montgomery, AL, the Jamey Johnson Homecoming Golf Tournament is a heartfelt fundraising event hosted by Country Music Recording Artist Jamey Johnson in his hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. The all day event is filled with golf and music in an effort to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer, with proceeds benefitting both The Nikki Mitchell Foundation and US Marine Corps Toys for Tots.

The 2014 Jamey Johnson Homecoming Golf Tournament was a jam packed all-day event that included celebrity golf guests John Daley, Boo Weekly, as well as Grammy and Country Award winning recording artists Kid Rock, Colt Ford, and Jerrod Neimann. It earned over $42,000 in cash for the Nikki Mitchell Foundation charity, as well as over $5,000 in toys for the Montgomery-area US Marine Corps Toys for Tots. The tournament is followed by an energetic outdoor concert, led by Johnson and special guests.

This year’s tournament sponsors include Wind Creek Casinos, Bama Bud, Hampton Inn, and Reinhardt Lexus. Teams are still available and anyone wishing to participate in this year’s tournament should contact Nikki Mitchell Foundation directly at 615.982.6903 or [email protected].

The Nikki Mitchell Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, that aims to promote early detection and help find a cure for the disease, supporting the most promising research available. The foundation’s namesake, Nikki Mitchell, who was President/CEO of Country Music icon Waylon Jennings Music for 22 years, passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in 2013 at the age of 58, and was a dear friend of Johnson’s.

An evening concert will follow the star-studded tournament with ticket proceeds going to the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots. Admission to the concert is open to the general public. Tickets are available at the door for a minimum $10 donation or toy of equal value.

According to the American Cancer Society, Pancreatic Cancer is currently the fourth leading cause of cancer in the United States and is anticipated to become the second by 2020. It has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers. 93% of pancreatic cancer patients will die within five years of diagnosis – only 7% will survive more than 5 years and 73% die within the first year of diagnosis. It is the leading cause of cancer death largely because there are no detection tools to diagnose the disease in its early stages. Currently The National Cancer Institute spends a mere 1.8% of its approximate $5.8 billion budget on Pancreatic Cancer Research
